blogs into websites

Blogs are generally intended as a place to record you thoughts - on whatever subject - like a diary
with the latest blog post appearing on the front page of the blog .This is the idea .

But most blogs can be turned into websites if that is what you want
and I will try to explain how to do this . The method varies with the company so I will go through a few of the most popular free ones

1  Blogger ( also known as Blogspot ) is the simplest to use , the fastest and it is easily my favourite so I will start with this one .

Be aware that is part of the Google Empire so it will already know who you are and know far more about you than your family or even your closest friends do , especially if you already have a Gmail account and use Chrome.

Personally, I do not care - they are welcome to be bored and suggest Bargain Breaks in Scarborough, but there it is  ...

Blogger is fun and easy to use . Some instructions are HERE
(  ...or they Will Be .  Please note ; these pages are Under Construction ... )

It is such a long time since I have used Tumblr that I have forgotten how it works - it is easy to use but I think it basically IS a blog

3  Wix makes some lovely and very professional looking websites - but each page takes an absolute age to refresh every time you edit so much as the punctuation .
Use it only IF you have a fast WiFi connection and know exactly what you want to say ... have your text ready and edited before you paste in ... and if you have the patience of an angel ... or you will definitely go mad

4  Talking of which . There is Wordpress .  I have used Wordpress for several websites and one day, when I really do think that I really do understand it, I will try and explain how to use it. For now, I would say ... just don't .

This may be only me though  . Many websites are built with Wordpress .  This is a great one for Fatima Ronquillo , but then I love her artwork anyway .  Wordpress does many more sophisticated things than Blogger - it will allow you to host files on it for download ... it will allow SubMenus .... it will do other things that I can't think of at the moment and will come back to ....
and there are numerous tutorials on the web to help you through it
but unless you are MUCH smarter than me - which you may well be - it will fry your head .
~
That being said , I am talking about building websites ... if you just want to share your thoughts with the world in a sequential manner ... ie/ what a blog is designed for - then Wordpress is fine too.
~
But I would still start with Blogger .

ALL

and whichever you use - keep TWO windows open for it in your browser ... one from inside ,for editing

and keep refreshing the other ... with the button on the top bar that looks like this ....
and keep this window for the way that the site looks like to anyone outside it.
DO NOT have any more than two windows open per site ... or you will get into a complete tangle . I do absolutely know this for sure

                                     ... Good Luck !

This is me in the office , building websites .
